The One Miracle Product that Treated my Dry Eye

dry eye

If you are reading this and you suffer from dry eye, I don’t even need to begin explaining how incredibly debilitating this condition is. I never knew how bad having dry eyes could be until I had it. Having gone to the Doctor to be told I have dry eye and that not much could be done about it other than being sent home with some eye drops and being told to monitor my condition and come back if the condition worsens was not good enough for me.

I remember waking in the morning with my eyes stuck together and having to take a warm and wet face towel to slowly get my eyes open. Not to mention the excruciating pain felt when startled in the middle of the night and you open your eyes suddenly. The best way I can describe this feeling is as if someone has stabbed you repeatedly in the eye. As my condition got worse I knew I needed to find a solution. There was no way I was able to live a comfortable life with a condition such as this and thus my journey began trying every technique and product I could find. Many of which, I will share with you in this post.

What is dry eye?

Dry eye is a chronic condition where there is not enough lubrication in the eye. When dry eye occurs you’re either not producing quality tears or not enough tears that lead to the dreaded condition. Dry eye is very common and according to all about vision nearly half of all American adults aged 18 and over have experienced dry eye symptoms.

What are the symptoms of dry eye?

  • Sensitivity to light
  • Red, sore and itchy eyes
  • Heavy and fatigued eyes
  • Burning eyes
  • Feeling something is stuck in the eye such as a bit of dust, sand or something gritty
  • Watery eyes
  • Blurred vision

What can cause dry eye?

There are many reasons that one can get dry eye but some of the known reasons are:

  • Excessive electronic device use such as computers, phone, ipads, kindles etc. Using these devices causes us to blink less frequently causing increased tear evaporation resulting in a higher chance of dry eye
  • Getting older in age can cause dry eye, this is common in people over 50
  • Medical conditions such as lupus, sjogrens, diabetes, scleroderma, rheumatoid arthritis can
  • Medications such as antihistamines and some antidepressants
  • Laser eye surgery, although generally dry eye symptoms from laser eye surgery are temporary

How to relieve dry eye?

Moist warm compressor – this provides very temporary relief but it does help! Simply take a clean face washer and saturate it in warm water, squeeze out excess water and place the face washer over your closed eyes for immediate relief.

Get a good nights sleep – I found that not getting enough sleep would irritate my dry eye a lot during the day. Try to get a good amount of sleep so your body can recharge.

Juicing – Yes! Juicing helps relieve dry eye if you do it consistently. Parsley and carrots contain crucial elements for eye health. Making this juice on a daily basis will see a reduction in dry eye symptoms. If you’re new to juicing and need help selecting a suitable juicer be sure to check out my best juicer comparison page.

Eye drops – I had tried so many drops and none of them really worked for me. They either made my eyes water more, sting, itch or made my vision blurry. The one brand that is perfect for me is Similasan Dry Eye Relief. It’s a natural homeopathic formulation that is cruelty and preservative free that provides instant relief. It comes in a dropper bottle or you can get them in single-use packs that are very handy for travel.

Wear sunglasses when outside – this helps to protect the eyes from the wind and strong sun. It will help to keep the precious little lubrication that you do have in your eyes and not dry out so quickly. The wind hitting a dry eye is simply ouch!

Bilberry ExtractThis supplement is believed to assist with keeping your eyes healthy and whilst I was taking this I did notice some improvement in my eyes and vision in general.

These suggestions I have given you will provide you with relief but it won’t by any means treat your condition. However, about a year ago I came across a product that changed my life. When I came across this product I was not looking for dry eye products, I was looking for supplements to help with my hair and skin and I stumbled on…..are you ready for it??

*Drum roll*

The ONE product that saved my life from dry eye is….

Neocell Hyaluronic Acid liquid. This beautiful, amazing and life saving product I cannot recommend enough. When I first tried this product (for my skin) I didn’t expect it to work for my dry eyes as I had previously tried other Hyaluronic Acid products such as the one from Now Foods Hyaluronic Acid which never gave me any dry eye relief. Despite it being cheaper in price and having a higher content of Hyaluronic acid, it did absolutely nothing for my eyes. On the other hand, the Neocell Hyaluronic Acid liquid truly saved my life. By the time I had finished the first bottle (1 month supply) I forgot I ever had dry eyes. I have continued to take this product daily for over a year now (I am too scared to stop it in case the dry eye comes back) and I have never once had any symptom of dry again.

What is Hyaluronic Acid?

Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring type of polysaccharide (a carbohydrate) within the body. It acts as a humectant meaning that it retains moisture. Because it is able to retain moisture, this helps to relieve and in some cases (such as mine) eliminate the dry eye symptoms altogether. The levels of Hyaluronic acid drops as we age, which is why supplementation is important.

If you are experiencing dry eyes I highly recommend you give this product a try. You will not be disappointed. It’s a once a day, liquid product, taken orally. As an added bonus (not related to dry eye) but my nails have grown so long and strong as a result of this supplement!

Please comment below and let me know of your dry eye struggles, what has worked for you and what hasn’t.

Until next time,

No more dry eye!
